The Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) National Network is a public-private partnership that delivers comprehensive, proven solutions by helping small and medium-sized manufacturers grow, make operational improvements, and reduce risk.

America Makes is the nation’s leading public-private partnership for additive manufacturing (3D printing) technology and education. Our members from industry, academia, government, and workforce and economic development organizations work together to accelerate the adoption of additive manufacturing and the nation’s global manufacturing competitiveness.

APEX Accelerators offer no-cost guidance and support services to help your business succeed in the government marketplace.

Our Ohio SBDC Export Assistance Network provides export assistance for new-to-export businesses as well as existing exporters looking to expand overseas markets.

SBDC Programs deliver professional, high-quality, individualized business advising and technical assistance to existing small businesses and pre-venture entrepreneurs.

The Ohio Manufacturers’ Association provides a voice to Ohio’s manufacturing industry, while providing valued services that help members save money, reduce burdens, grow talent, and solve regulatory challenges.

SCORE is a non-profit organization of volunteer counselors who provide free mentoring, education programs, workshops, and webinars to small businesses.

Women’s Business Center serves as a resource center that empowers women entrepreneurs with resources & tools to create strong sustainable businesses.

Workforce and Talent Programs ​

What it covers: Services that support finding, training, and retaining employees. This includes recruitment assistance, apprenticeship programs, internships, upskilling initiatives, connections with community colleges and technical centers, and funding for workforce training.

College Technology Internship Program

The College Technology Internship Program offers paid internships to give college students great experience in business and entrepreneurship, while companies get great young, diverse talent to help them compete and grow.

The Ohio Export Internship Program is designed to help businesses overcome the challenges of developing new markets by matching them with highly motivated students who have taken export-focused coursework from Ohio universities:

The Ohio Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) partners with area high schools and career/technical schools to identify students with an interest in manufacturing, as well as a desire to gain real-world manufacturing experience. The Ohio MEP High School Internship Program assists manufacturers with their workforce needs, while also providing students valuable career skills.

ApprenticeOhio is a program that connects companies to people wanting to learn a trade or skill.

The US Navy Talent Pipeline Program TEAM supports the American economy by creating and sustaining a maritime and defense industrial base-focused talent pipeline that enables employers to re-capitalize their workforce through recruiting, hiring, training, and retaining skilled workforce members with critical trade skills for 1-year as productive and engaged new employees.

OhioMeansJobs.com connects businesses to job seekers and provides career services to all Ohioans.

Workforce Development Boards serve as the governance and policy boards for a designated region. The organization’s mission is to partner with area businesses and organizations on workforce needs, such as providing services to unemployed and underemployed job seekers, helping them obtain and retain employment in high-growth jobs and careers providing economic independence. These services are provided through a network of partners and contract service providers in line with the organization’s goal to bring together job seekers and employers.

The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) program provides federal tax credits to Ohio employers that hire individuals from one of several target groups. Credits range from $1,200 to $9,600, based on the target group and the number of hours worked.

Your local community college will be willing to work with you to to develop training programs to meet the workforce needs of your business. They also regularly host career fairs and student engagement opportunities to asssist with recruiting.

Ohio’s career-technical education programs offer high quality educational experiences that help students find their career passion. Students acquire real-world skills through classroom teaching, hands-on labs, student organizations, and work-based learning with local businesses. In pathways and programs, students have unique opportunities to grow themselves as leaders, contribute to their communities, and be part of Ohio’s economic development.

TechCred helps Ohioans learn new skills and helps employers build a stronger workforce with the skills needed in a technology-infused economy.

IWT under WIOA provides both workers and employers with the opportunity to build and maintain a quality workforce and increase both participants’ and companies’ competitiveness. It is a type of work-based training and upskilling designed to ensure that employees of a company can acquire the skills necessary to retain employment and/or advance within the company, or to acquire the skills necessary to avert a layoff.

On-the-Job Training is a federally-funded program that helps employers hire and train individuals for long-term employment.

All Ohio school districts and Educational Service Centers need to have a Business Advisory Council. Ohio is proud to be home to over 110 Business Advisory Councils. These locally focused partnerships convene education and business leaders to engage in dialogue, build trust and identify strategies that transform the student learning experience.

Incentives and Funding ​

What it covers: Services that support accessing capital for various needs like equipment purchase, facility expansion, energy efficiency upgrades, safety improvements, or workforce training. This includes state and federal grants, loan programs, tax credits, and potential economic development incentives.

SBA Loan Garauntee Programs

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) helps small businesses get funding by setting guidelines for loans, reducing lender risk, and offering SBA-backed loans make it easier for small businesses to get the funding they need.

The State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) is a nearly $10 billion program to support small businesses and entrepreneurship in communities across the United States by providing capital and technical assistance to promote small business stability, growth, and success.

Funding for Rural based manufacturers

The Jobs & Commerce Economic Development (JCED) Program provides funding for transportation projects that promote job creation, job retention and private sector investment.

Roadwork Development (629) Funds are available for public roadway improvements, including engineering and design costs. Funds are accessible for projects that create or retain jobs and primarily involve manufacturing, technology, research and development, corporate headquarters, and distribution activity.

A Transportation Improvement District (TID) is a form of local government that strives to promote intergovernmental and public-private cooperation of transportation resources and investments.

 JobsOhio is the state’s private nonprofit economic development organization that leads corporate attraction and retention efforts. The organization manages loan, grant, workforce and other incentive programs to support the attraction and expansion of businesses in Ohio. Additinoally JobsOhio has resources to support site selection efforts and has industry exports taht can support reshoring efforts.

The Regional 166 Direct Loan Program (“Regional 166 Direct Loan” or the “Program”) promotes economic development, business expansion, and job creation and/or retention by providing low interest loans to businesses who may have limited access to adequate capital from private sources of financing.

To serve its mission and achieve measurable environmental, economic, and public health benefits for all Ohioans, OAQDA offers a range of financial and technical assistance programs to support air quality facility projects and communities and businesses across Ohio.

The program provides fixed, low-interest rate loans to certified minority-owned businesses that are purchasing or improving fixed assets resulting in the creation of new jobs for Ohioans.

SBA Red Tape Hotline

As the watchdog for small businesses in the regulatory process, the Office of Advocacy works to restrain regulation that imposes excessive costs on small businesses.

Ohio’s Common Sense Initiative (CSI) reviews business-impacting rules, helps businesses navigate regulatory obstacles, and leads initiatives to improve Ohio’s regulatory climate. CSI was formed to propel job and economic growth in Ohio.

Established in 1912, the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation is the exclusive provider of workers’ compensation insurance in Ohio, serving 258,000 public and private employers. With over 1,600 employees and assets of approximately $23 billion, BWC is one of the largest state-run insurance systems in the United States

We provide free and confidential technical assistance, education, and other resources to help your business understand and comply with Ohio EPA’s air, water, and waste regulations.

Technology, Innovation, and Cyber Security​

What it covers: Integrating new technologies like automation, robotics, AI, additive manufacturing (3D printing), data analytics, cybersecurity measures, and support for research & development or new product development.

Ohio CyberSecure

The Small Enterprise Cybersecurity Upgrade & Resiliency Enhancement (CyberSECURE) program offers free support to Ohio businesses that are seeking to improve their cybersecurity practices or establish and maintain their presence in the defense marketplace.

The Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) National Network is a public-private partnership that delivers comprehensive, proven solutions by helping small and medium-sized manufacturers grow, make operational improvements, and reduce risk.

The Greater Akron Polymer Innovation Hub accelerates impactful innovations and supports new economic growth by capitalizing on the region’s long-standing expertise in polymer science.

The Northwest Ohio Glass Innovation Hub strives to establish northwest Ohio as a global leader in glass science, engineering, technology and production.

Supported with $35 million in state funding from the Ohio Innovation Hubs Program, the new onMain Innovation Hub will bring together government, academia, and private sector industry partners to make Dayton a global leader in the research and development of digital transformation technologies.

The Federal and State Technology (FAST) Partnership Program provides funding to organizations to execute state/regional programs that increase the number of SBIR/STTR proposals leading to an increase in the number of SBIR/STTR awards from small businesses owners in undercapitalized regions.

Through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, America’s Seed Fund awards non-dilutive funding to develop your technology and chart a path toward commercialization

The APEX Accelerators program, under management of the Department of Defense (DOD) Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP), provides the education and training that all businesses need to participate to become capable of participating in DOD and other government contracts and entering and participating in the defense supply-chain.

Focusing on the manufacturing sector, which employs one-third of the state’s 2.2 million small business employees, the Ohio Cybersecurity for Small Businesses Pilot will educate, train, mentor and improve small businesses’ ability to mitigate cybersecurity threats. Funded in part through a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration, this program is designed to lead small businesses through steps to identify cybersecurity threats, respond to cybercrimes and develop resilient infrastructure.
